Casio is bringing its previously announced ring-watch concept into the smart device arena with the CRW-H001M-8. This new model retains the aesthetic of a miniature digital watch integrated into a ring, but now features the sensors and functionalities of a smart ring. Consequently, this watch-shaped ring is no longer limited to just displaying the time, setting alarms, or using a stopwatch. With this latest update, it can now also track physical activity, sleep, and various health-related parameters.
The result is a rather unique device, positioned between Casio's classic digital watches and products like the Oura Ring or the Samsung Galaxy Ring. In contrast to the discreet and largely uniform design of most smart rings, Casio opts for a much more recognizable appearance, complete with a small LCD screen, physical buttons, and a casing that mimics the form factor of one of its traditional watches.
The Casio CRW-H001M-8 is Another Smart Ring, but with a Miniature Watch Design
Internally, the Casio CRW-H001M-8 integrates a monitoring module capable of measuring heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and body temperature. It also analyzes sleep and recovery, counts steps, calculates consumed calories, and allows for the tracking of activities such as running, walking, or cycling. All this data can be accessed through the AIZO Ring mobile application, available for iOS, Android, and HarmonyOS.
The application provides training logs, activity analysis, health reports, and menstrual cycle tracking. Casio emphasizes, however, that this data is intended solely as a reference for well-being and physical activity, and the ring should not be used as a substitute for medical devices or diagnostic tools.
The device also incorporates a vibration motor, enabling users to receive notifications for calls, messages, silent alarms, custom reminders, and alerts related to anomalous health values. In addition to these smart functions, it includes the usual features of a Casio watch, such as a second time zone, hundredth-of-a-second stopwatch, calendar, 12/24-hour format, and white LED backlight.
Standalone Display, Up to Six Days of Battery Life, and Initially Limited to China
One of its key differentiators compared to most smart rings is precisely its display. Users can directly check the time, date, and other basic functions without opening the phone application. The watch module utilizes an independent battery with an approximate lifespan of two years (one coin cell battery). On the other hand, the smart component and its sensors are powered by a rechargeable battery that offers four to six days of autonomy, or around 25 days in standby mode.
Casio has manufactured the casing using metal injection molding to replicate the forms of a digital watch at a much smaller scale. The ring combines stainless steel, ceramic, and mineral glass. It weighs 19 grams and measures 25.3 x 19.5 x 6 millimeters at its widest front section. It is sold in three sizes, with approximate inner diameters of 19.3, 20.1, and 20.9 millimeters, although none of these allow for size adjustment after purchase.
The Casio CRW-H001M-8 has an official price of 1,990 yuan, approximately 238 euros at the current exchange rate, though it will initially be an exclusive product for the Chinese market. Casio specifies that both its sales and after-sales service will be limited to China. Therefore, it remains unclear if it will eventually reach Europe, the United States, or any other market. Like the original ring, it's a bold design that might make widespread sales success a challenge.
