First glimpsed in late 2025, LG has now officially unveiled all the details surrounding its LG UltraGear evo 39GX950B (GX9) monitor. It stands out as the world's first monitor to feature AI-powered image upscaling technology. This means that upscaling doesn't rely on a powerful graphics card or a CPU with an NPU. Since this monitor boasts a 5K resolution, and native 5K content is practically nonexistent, the integrated AI is designed to scale all displayed content to this high resolution.

However, there are significant ambiguities regarding the specifics of this upscaling. LG describes it as an “on-device integrated AI solution” utilizing an “integrated processor” to enhance the input signal in real-time before displaying it on the panel. Speculation suggests it might be an Alpha SoC, similar to those found in LG's televisions, adapted for monitor use. This feature enables AI image upscaling “from any device” up to the panel's native 5K2K resolution. It's important to clarify that this is not an equivalent to NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, or Intel XeSS. The technology is simpler, focusing on enhancing an existing video signal rather than interacting with a game's graphics engine. Therefore, it functions more as advanced post-processing applied to the final frame, rather than a full image reconstruction.

Technical Specifications of the LG UltraGear evo 39GX950B Monitor

The LG UltraGear evo 39GX950B features a 39-inch 4th generation curved Tandem OLED / Primary RGB Tandem OLED panel. It boasts a native 5K2K resolution of 5,120 x 2,160 pixels (21:9 aspect ratio) with an impressive refresh rate of 165 Hz. Thanks to Dual Mode, users can reduce the resolution to WFHD (2,560 x 1,080 pixels) to achieve an even faster 330 Hz. The panel delivers a peak brightness of up to 1,500 nits (335 nits in SDR) and covers 99.5% of the DCI-P3 color space. It offers an incredibly swift response time of 0.03 milliseconds and supports VRR, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible adaptive sync technologies.

Regarding connectivity, the monitor is equipped with one DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 port, two HDMI 2.1 ports, and a versatile USB-C port offering 90W fast charging. It also includes a stereo sound system with two 7W speakers, further enhanced by AI Sound technology. This feature aims to deliver a virtual 7.1.2 channel sound experience, proving particularly useful for accurately discerning the direction of in-game sounds like footsteps.

Rounding out the features of the LG UltraGear evo 39GX950B is AI Scene Optimization, which automatically adjusts color temperature, enhancement, and sharpness based on the type of content being displayed. A notable point is that, unlike most competitors, LG offers 'only' a 2-year warranty on the OLED panel (compared to the industry standard of 3 years). The monitor boasts a virtually borderless design, an ergonomic stand allowing for height, tilt, and swivel adjustments, and VESA 100 x 100 mm compatibility for alternative mounting. It also integrates pixel refresh technologies and various algorithms designed to extend the panel's lifespan.

Regarding pricing, LG has not made an official announcement. Nevertheless, a European distributor has indicated an expected price range between 1,799 and 1,829 euros.
